MCPL for Kindle.

Submitted by Anonymous on October 24, 2011 - 8:34pm.

I rather pride myself on following directions but they are going to have to be better than the current directions for checking out books for my Kindle.

The ones that are given are just unacceptable.

Someone just give me clear and concise directions please.

Thanks.

"Returning" kindle ebooks

Submitted by Anonymous on October 7, 2011 - 11:40am.

I'm confused how I "return" a book if I had read it early (before the 3-week checkout). If I just "Remove it from device", is it automatically "returned" to the library? I haved several ebooks on hold and have been number 1 of 1 for several weeks. Are other readers keeping their books until time runs out, or are they as confused as I about returning early. Holds seem to take forever!

How much time are you alloted

Submitted by Anonymous on October 1, 2011 - 12:04pm.

How much time are you alloted to read the e-book once it's transferred to your device? Will it be pulled from your device automatically once a certain time frame is up, or do you have to 'return' it so to speak?

eBook allotted amount of time

Submitted by afisher on October 3, 2011 - 1:26pm.

When you go to check out your eBook you have the choice of 7, 14 or 21 days for your checkout length of time.

You can return your eBook early otherwise, you can wait for your allotted time to be up. After that time period is up you will not be able to access your eBook.

I hope this answers your question.

Need more e-books

Submitted by mrbeankc on September 22, 2011 - 7:33pm.

The e-book selection is rather slim. Only 43 total titles under history. I went looking for 4 fiction titles I was interested in. Only one of the four did the library have any copies and for that there was only one. I likely will be getting that one sometime in January. Mind you it's very early and you can't have everything right out of the gate. Maybe something could be organized to help raise funds for the library to help buy e-books?

We are continuously adding

Submitted by afisher on September 23, 2011 - 4:51pm.

We are continuously adding titles to our eBook collection. I realize it can be frustrating looking for an author or title of a book and not finding what you want. Some of the problems we have are that not all publishers have an agreement with OverDrive. Publishers such as Simon & Schuster and Macmillan do not sell their eBooks at this time to public libraries. Also, we are boycotting Harper Collins because of their policy of only allowing 26 checkouts on a copy of a title. This limits us on what titles we can purchase.

Another problem is that an author started out with one publisher and then switched to different publisher for their lastest title.

On a positive note, publishers are adding more and more of their older titles to the selection choices.

Thank you for letting us know your concerns.

could use better instructions

Submitted by Anonymous on September 21, 2011 - 9:14pm.

Finally! I am excited to try using my Kindle with library books!
I wish this post had better instructions, it took me a while to find the link.
You have to go through their "Overdrive" site.
Click on the text "OverDrive Digital Downloads" in the middle of this page:
http://www.mymcpl.org/books-movies-music/downloadable-ebooks
and it will take you to the digital library.
Once you click on a title you are interested in, you can select "for Kindle"
So far, everything I've wanted has a hold on it. If you place a hold, the library will email you when it's your turn. Then you have 3 days to accept your turn.
