Easy Chili Recipe

January 27, 2011

With the winter snow and wind, I think chili makes a great simple dinner idea to warm the body inside and make the house smell great too.  I have my own easy chili recipe that my family loves (listed below).  MCPL has many cookbooks featuring soups and chili’s that you might want to try for a new recipe.

Some of my favorites are:

  • Soups, Stews & Chili: a Best Recipe Classic
  • 100 Soups for $5 or Less
  • The Soup Book
  • Good Housekeeping Soups & Stews
  • Slow Cooking: 135 Delicious Recipes for Soups, Stews, Casseroles, Roasts and One-pot Meals Shown in 260 Stunning Photographs

Wanda's Easy Chili

In a 5 qt. crockpot add:
2 drained cans of kidney or red beans
1 15 oz. or two 8 oz. cans of tomato sauce
1 cup of water
I 15 oz. can of diced  tomatoes (add the kind your family prefers, with chili’s or stewed)
I package of dried chili seasonings --any brand--use two if you like it spicier
I pound of hamburger --use more if you want it thicker

Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours

Serve with cornbread, cheese, pickles, onions, etc.  Enjoy!
