Dreams Have No Expiration Date
July 13, 2012
This summer MCPL has asked children to Dream Big...Read! The Summer Reading Program participation data proves that children are dreaming big. As adults, we know it’s never too late to follow a dream because dreams have no expiration date.
As a child, my dream was to be Dale Evans, Queen of the West, and ride my beautiful horse, Buttermilk, beside Roy Rogers and Trigger. For a trip down a happy trail, take a look at The Cowboy and the Senorita: a Biography of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans by Howard Kazanjian. Also available at MCPL is Happy Trails: The Story of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans by Roy Rogers. Did you know that Buttermilk often broke away more quickly than Trigger to chase after the bandits, and scenes had to be redone to be sure that Trigger was faster? Dale Evans, although from Texas, had never been on a horse when she came to Hollywood, and had to take riding lessons before she appeared in her first western.
It’s fun to think about old dreams and, as our Summer Reading Program nears the end, I’m looking into the sky to dream some new dreams. I want to encourage children to dream big with the opportunities they have at MCPL. Dreams have no expiration date.
