A Dream Come True...
March 11, 2013
At least that's what some would call it if the three major library systems in the KC area could establish a single cataloging system. Imagine being able to search AT ONE TIME the availability of books, audio, video (as well as eBooks) within our local library systems. That very idea has been on the minds of local libraries for some time now. This endeavor includes leaders at Kansas City Public Library, Johnson County Public Library, and our own Mid-Continent Public Library. Even though all three systems use the exact same computer software system, they have been unable to achieve this objective. But our library leaders will keep trying.
In the meantime, MCPL will continue to do our very best to locate through WorldCat (also known as ILL or out of system) those items that we do not currently own. However, kudos to our leaders who continue to seek ways to further collaborate for the benefit of ALL local library patrons. If this goal is achieved, certainly a universal library card could not be far behind. Ah, another dream come true!
