Dog Days of Summer!
August 06, 2012
BOW WOW!! The dog days of summer are technically supposed to occur July 3rd thru August 11th, and are usually the hottest and muggiest time of the season. Maybe it’s just me, but seems like it started just a little earlier this summer.
The term "dog days" is connected to the constellation pattern, the Canis Major or Big Dog. Sirius, the Dog Star, also happens to be the brightest star in the Canis Major in the night sky. In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the sun.
Speaking of dogs, the four legged kind, not the star, MCPL has a great selection to choose from on that very subject right here in our Library. Whether the need is to teach an old dog new tricks, figuring out what breed of dog is the best fit for the family, reading true dog "tales" that will make you laugh/cry, or just checking out a funny movie about our canine pals, MCPL has a great selection to choose from. Try a book or movie today!
