Do Some Good This Holiday Season
December 12, 2012
As you admire all the bright and shiny holiday lights decorating the houses of your friends and neighbors, do you ever wonder what to do with any broken, old strands of Christmas lights? Well, MCPL is helping you out by partnering with Southeast Enterprises to collect and recycle any unwanted Christmas lights. Visit any of our branches to donate your lights to this great project. So far they have gathered over 6,894 pounds of lights!
Southeast Enterprises' mission is to provide a safe work environment and challenging employment opportunities for citizens who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year they have joined St. Louis Green's Holiday Light Recycling Drive. Last year the drive collected 64,000 pounds of unwanted lights, which were then recycled and sent back to manufacturers to be used in new products. By expanding into Kansas City this year, the Holiday Light Recycling Drive hopes to collect a record-breaking 128,000 pounds of lights!
Stop by your local branch to donate to this wonderful cause and save some space in your attic and in the landfill!
The program continues until January 13, 2013.
