Digital Library for Teens
October 07, 2010
Today while I was helping a teen looking for a book, I overheard her brother telling her that she could get the book's audio version by purchasing it with "Mom’s account and she’ll pay for it". He had recently purchased one and paid $10. Wow, I thought to myself, they could benefit by using Overdrive. I apologized for over hearing their conversation, and told them about our Overdrive database. I took them over to a terminal, brought up Overdrive, and we looked up the audiobook that the brother purchased for $10. There it was: F-R-E-E. They were so excited. I explained that there is no cost; the items are free for anyone who has a Mid-Continent library card. Two teens left Claycomo Branch happy. We didn’t have the book in, but they loved learning that they could go home and get it from Overdrive, our search database that Mid-Continent offers to our customers for F-R-E-E.
