A Dickens of a Christmas
November 05, 2012
"Bah humbug!" Almost everyone is familiar with this famous quote from Ebenezer Scrooge of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I grew up on such book classics as this and Twas the Night Before Christmas. I anxiously awaited the TV cartoons like Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. There were no cartoon versions of A Christmas Carol until 1983, when Disney released Mickey’s Christmas Carol. After my son was born, I continued with the tradition, including The Muppet Christmas Carol. A Christmas Carol, the other holiday books, and movies were as much a part of my holiday as Santa, Christmas trees, and presents.
Let MCPL be part of your holiday traditions. This year marks the 200th Anniversary of Charles Dickens birth. In celebration, we are proud to bring to you Gerald Dickens, the great-great grandson of Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol with Gerald Dickens, A Special Engagement is here for a limited time only. Be sure to register and bring the whole family to see Gerald bring this holiday classic to life. (byerschoice.com)
Do you ever wonder how Charles Dickens came up the all the characters in A Christmas Carol? Join David zum Brunnen as he portrays Charles Dickens on the night he wrote A Christmas Carol in Night Before Christmas Carol. (ebzb.org)
Make it a Dickens of a Christmas and bring the whole family to both of these unique performances and start your holiday season off the right way. And in the famous words of Tiny Tim, "God Bless us, every one!"

Christmas Carol Cartoons
I would like to see Gerald Dickens' presentation. I want to thank Kimberly Howard for bringing it to our attention. However, Ms. Howard is mistaken when she says there were no cartoon versions of A Christmas Carol before 1983. I remember "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" from 1962, with Mr. Magoo playing Scrooge. I also remember a half-hour cartoon version from the 1970s.
Dickens program
Is this the same man who came to MCPL a few years ago a number of times? I don't believe he is. Are they both related to Charles Dickens? In what way?

Gerald Dickens is Charles
Gerald Dickens is Charles Dickens' great-great-grandson. I don't believe the other performer is related. They both do their shows at MCPL every year or every few years. Gerald Dickens was also performing at the Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs this year.
