Detox for You!
June 21, 2013
Recently, I finished a 21-day detox program through Beachbody Ultimate Reset and learned a lot. I highly recommend doing one sometime. I had my ups and downs while in the process, but I made it through and got rid of 18 lbs.!
I had to be willing to give up red meats at first, and then meat all together. In the second week, dairy products were phased out, and by the 3rd week, I was totally vegan. It was interesting to learn how much fruits and veggies actually fill you up, not to mention the added bonus of vitamins and nutrients that are important for your health. Now, I am in the process of adding whole grains and legumes back in slowly to see how my body reacts to the changes. So far, I am good. I can’t wait for the next phase of more legumes, whole grains, and breads. The final phase is adding dairy and meats back in! I have gone 25 days without meat!
Although, I don’t plan to stay vegan, I have learned some important things that I plan to stay on track with. The recipes I used were all mostly good, but have you heard of tempeh? It was not one I plan to repeat. But there are healthy habits I will incorporate from now on (and hopefully shed some more pounds). During the detox, I also gave up caffeine & sugar. Caffeine free herbal tea was permitted but sweetened with stevia. Another trick I learned is to sweeten plain organic Greek yogurt, oatmeal, and farina with Pure Maple Syrup (dark grade B). I also use more whole grains, veggies, fruit, and extra virgin olive oil instead of butter. Another new alternative is to use pink Himalayan salt, as it is filled with minerals good for your body.
I saw this whole detox as a learning experience and a lifestyle change. I was caught in the rut of eating out and not making healthy choices for myself. I don’t know about you, but I do want to be healthy and stick around for a while longer for my husband and children. If you’re interested in doing a cleanse diet, come to the Library and check out our books on this subject! Don’t make the mistake I did by paying for a kit (it was a good kit but expensive). Check with your doctor before beginning, and then research how you’ll carry it out and begin your new adventure of healthy, clean, unprocessed eating. It is totally worth it! I feel great!
