This month, the Colbern Road Evening Book Club is discussing Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven by Susan Jane Gilman. Join us Wednseday, August 22nd at 7:00 p.m. to talk about this thrilling memoir.

In 1986, Susan and Claire set out to travel the globe before settling down after college. Their first stop is the People’s Republic of China, which has only been open to travelers for mere weeks. Armed only with their favorite novels, a rucksack, and malaria pills, the girls begin their journey around the world, but quickly find themselves in a place unlike any other. When Claire becomes paranoid and begins hearing voices, Susan realizes she is suffering from more than culture shock and must get her back home immediately. That’s easier said than done, though, and a scary, shocking, sometimes humorous adventure follows.

Susan's memoir takes us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and experiences and allows us to really feel what it’s like to travel the unknown world.
