Come Join Us for the Colbern Road Evening Book Club!
January 23, 2013
This month the Colbern Road Evening Book Club discussed The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian.
Through Bohjalian’s story telling, we meet Laura, whose grandparents experienced the First World War in Syria together. Her grandmother, Elizabeth, arrives in Syria from Boston with aid for Armenian refugees. There, she becomes acquainted with Armen, an Armenian engineer, and they slowly begin to fall in love despite the raging genocide around them.
Both are passionate about ending the "slaughter you know nothing about" and saving their people. Learn their story, as well as those parts of history we seldom hear about. One and a half million people were killed during the Armenian genocide and Bohjalian brilliantly brings that tragedy to life as it’s played out through a love story.
Read The Sandcastle Girls and be swept away by a story very few of us have heard before.
