Colbern Road Branch Receives Literacy Award
May 15, 2014
It’s an exciting time to be part of the MCPL community. As you may already know, your library received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service last week in Washington D.C. at a ceremony at the White House. Next week, the Colbern Road Branch will be receiving a local honor: the Lee’s Summit Reading Council Literacy Award.
The Reading Council will host a reception at the branch on May 20, starting at 5:00 p.m. This event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend.
The award is given annually to an individual or organization dedicated to promoting literacy in the community. The Colbern Road Branch was nominated for working with kindergarten students at Meadow Lane Elementary, sharing books and activities that promote early literacy skills.
The Lee’s Summit Reading Council is a chapter of the International Reading Association. This is the 32nd year they have presented the award.
