Civil War Soldiers Write Home
June 20, 2013
As genealogists, it isn’t terribly uncommon for us to come across coincidences somewhere along our family lines, or even confluences of one of our lines with the line of a good friend or maybe even our spouse. Occasionally, we even find someone who is related to us somewhere down our line in an unexpected place – like the Midwest Genealogy Center!
However, the coincidences and confluences of lines are nothing less than remarkable in the story that Jack Bender will present here on Thursday, June 27. Civil War Soldiers Write Home is Jack’s tale, and it began at an auction he never planned to attend. Jack purchased a box of letters that were written by soldiers from Allen County, Kansas. His research carried him to Humboldt, Kansas to look for a cemetery named in the letters. Eventually, he rediscovered old friends through information obtained in the letters as well as connecting those friends to some of their kin revealed through the letters.
Children from age thirteen on up through adults will find Jack Bender’s tale fascinating. Please join us for Civil War Soldiers Write Home on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. This presentation is free, however, registration is required.
