Christmas Traditions

December 22, 2011

What is your favorite Christmas tradition? In my family, it just isn't Christmas without our favorite cookies. My kids love our candy cane cookies made with sugar cookie dough.

We roll out a small ball of red dough and a small ball of plain dough into thin pencil shapes. Then, we twist the two together and form a candy cane shape and bake. If we are feeling lazy, we make the candy cane with plain dough, and after baking, we frost the cookie with white frosting and use red sugar sprinkles to decorate.

My grandson likes the nuts I keep in a bowl on the table. He loves to crack the nut and dig out the meat. We usually have these only around Christmas time, so now it is a tradition, too.

You can start your own traditions, and your family will love them for years to come.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Traditions

I miss the traditions that we used to have. My mother would play Christmas songs on the organ and we would sing them with her. I know it sounds like something off the Waltons but we loved it and Mom created many, many happy memories that I wish had stayed with us as traditions. I know that many people have had a rough time especially lately but it has been heart warming to hear about the people that are doing "Acts of Kindness" out of the blue. KC's Secret Santa, the Layaway "Angels", I even had someone pay for my lunch one day in the drive thru. Is it just Kansas City that is so giving? No, these things are occurring all over. I am hoping that these become traditions, not only at Christmas Time but all year long. It makes me feel that there is hope for us after all!
