Christmas Time in Kansas City
December 17, 2012
Looking for something to do around the city to get ready for the Christmas season? There’s plenty going on! Here are only a few things offered around town to get you in the mood to celebrate.
For Dickens lovers, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre offers their production of "A Christmas Carol." Take the whole family for a fun theater experience. The show runs through December 26 with both evening and matinee shows.
If the theater doesn’t appeal to you, try the ballet. The Kansas City Ballet is presenting "The Nutcracker" December 1 through 23. You can even get your picture taken with Nutcracker characters before and after the show. Contact the Kansas City Ballet for more details.
Even while you Christmas shop, the city provides several light shows that will delight and awe. Perhaps the most popular is the Plaza lights, located on the Country Club Plaza. The spectacle features 280,000 lights and will be available for viewing from now through January 13.
If you don’t feel like driving all the way downtown, check out the lights at Zona Rosa and the Legends Outlet. Zona Rosa will also offer carriage rides, live reindeer, visits with a fairy princess, and a holiday igloo for visitors, while the Legends features a synchronized light display that links Christmas music with an interactive light display.
Also check out your local Library branch for Christmas programs for the whole family. There’s no shortage of things to do to keep you busy. Enjoy celebrating the holiday season with family and friends around Kansas City and with your public library.
