As we near the holiday season, thoughts generally turn to family gatherings. If you are like many families, you may have lost loved ones recently, so you may not be looking forward to these family gatherings. While there are many ways to cope with loss, one way I have found (and genealogists may agree) very helpful is to look at photos of past holidays.
Do you have any photographs of holiday gatherings? Just browsing through these old photos lightens my mood and brings a smile as I remember how the holiday ham—complete with cherries—ended up on my cousin’s head. His brother still swears it was an accident. Hairdos are another walk down memory lane that will bring a smile to your face—and perhaps laughter from your grandchildren! Do you have photos of your presents under the tree? Bet you can remember the names of those special dolls. I cannot remember the year I received Cherry, but I am thinking it was the same year I received my very first Cherry Ames mystery novel.
So, don’t hesitate to get those family photos out this Christmas. Pass them around at your family gatherings. Perhaps family members can help pin names to all those faces and get those photos into acid free binders!
