Children's Book Award Winners Announced!

On Monday, January 10 in sunny San Diego, the 2011 Youth Media Award winners were announced. The Newbery Award for most outstanding contribution to children’s literature went to Wichita resident Clare Vanderpool for Moon Over Manifest. The Caldecott Award for most distinguished American picture book for children went to Erin Stead for her illustrations in A Sick Day For Amos McGee. Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi was awarded the Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults.
There were numerous honor books recognized as well as many other awards… Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, Schneider Family Book Award, Sibert, Geisel, and for the first time, the Stonewall Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award recognizing books of exceptional merit relating to the gay,lesbian, bisexual and transgendered experience. Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher won that one.
