Children's Authors and Illustrators Week
January 30, 2012
Do you remember sitting down with Mom or Dad and reading your very favorite story? I was always drawn to the pictures first and then the narrative. I remember looking through the beautiful drawings and reading Bread and Jam for Frances by Russell Hoban over and over again. I loved that cute little badger and my 7 year old heart definitely connected with her. In this way, books create memories for children, and they become more and more important to us as we grow up.
Any time is a good time to introduce kids to the world found in the pages of a book, but in the first week of February, you can read with a purpose. It’s Children’s Authors and Illustrators Week! This week, inspire a life-long love of reading by celebrating your children’s favorite authors and illustrators. Make books spring to life with story-telling and interactive reading. Make a list with your child of their favorite books and why they love them. Then, share those that are special to you. Maybe write a letter to an author or illustrator thanking them for their work. There are so many ways you can celebrate reading!
If you’re looking for a new favorite to share, try these lists for suggestions. Happy Reading!
