Challenge Yourself - READ!

May 17, 2012

I’m excited, and the reason is because, starting May 21st and running until July 31st, MCPL is launching its Summer Reading Program. For children, the theme being promoted is Dream Big, Read! As an incentive for either listening or reading, children will be able to earn free books and other great prizes. For teens, the theme being promoted is Own the Night!

For teens, the program has gone through some great changes this year. For each book read, teens earn a library buck by turning in a review of the book. The library bucks can be used to purchase books, earbuds, flash drives, and other great prizes. The other great change this year is that teens can read any book for library bucks.

This includes books checked out from MCPL, school libraries, and even their own personal books. At the Liberty Branch, we have a great display going on for both children and teens. For the teens, we have brought zombies to the library because they "own the night." If you're one of the first 20 teens to sign up with us for the Teen Summer Reading Program, you will get your picture on our missing persons display.

Whether you’re just a casual reader or a hardcore enthusiast, there is something that is sure to please. Check out MCPL on May 21st and prepare to participate. You’ll be happy you did!
