Celebrate Teen Read Week At Your Library!
October 10, 2011
Teen Read Week, October 16th-22nd, is a reading initiative of the American Library Association focused on encouraging teens to read for fun! This year's theme is Picture It @ Your Library and highlights graphic novels, comics, and other works where the visual art is a strong factor in the story. Your local MCPL branch has some exciting plans to help you celebrate Teen Read Week this year.
Several branches are holding "Read-Ins" with snacks and prizes, like free books and gift certificates. Need something great to read at the Read-In? Check out the books on the Teen's Top Ten Titles List. Some of the Read-In events are as follows:
Parkville: Monday, 10/17 - Thursday, 10/20 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Pie/Pie Party! Set a personal goal of a number of pages you would like to read. If you reach that goal, you will be eligible to attend a pizza party and to throw a pie at a librarian! Enter a chance to win free books as well.
Blue Springs North: "Read In, Eat Out!" Monday, 10/17 - Saturday, 10/22. Read for 15 minutes, and you can enter into a prize drawing for a Gift Certificate to Minsky's Pizza! You can enter your name into the drawing for every additional 15 minutes that you read in the library.
Liberty: Monday, 10/17 - Saturday, 10/22. Check out the display of graphic novels and comics in the teen section, and enter your name for a chance to win free books!
Antioch: Monday, 10/17 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Prizes and lots of great discussions.
