Cave Springs
October 11, 2012
I was looking on the Internet for free things to do in Kansas City, and I stumbled on something fascinating in lovely Raytown, Missouri. The area, according to their website, is a very historic site dating back to the Santa Fe Trail.
My little girl and I set off on an adventure in Cave Springs—me pushing her in her stroller. I recommend reading all about the site online before traipsing through the forest. I would also recommend that you bring an off road stroller, wear long socks, and pants.
The trails are nice, but narrow with nature creeping in on the tight pathways. I would also look at the map ahead of time or take your smart phone just in case you get lost like me, so you can find your way out. And while it's free, they do request donations. This area boasts about its cave and springs, but if you have gone to Bridal Cave or Fantastic Caverns, you may be pleasantly surprised to have a new and different experience.
Also, here's a website for other free events in Kansas City for kids.
