Cats in the Library?

September 08, 2010

At the library, we have a calendar with pictures of cats.  Usually when you think of cats, you picture them as cute and playful.  For instance, a famous library cat you may know of is Dewey from Spencer, Iowa. You can read about him in Dewey: the Small-town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron.  You could assume that our calendar has similar images.  Not so!  Our calendar has 12 months of pictures of Scottish Fold cats.  Now, most of the pictures show adorable pleasant looking cats, but a few of the months have the cats looking angry and evil.  Why they chose scary looking cats for pictures on a calendar, I will never understand.  Still, if you would like to see pictures of happy looking Scottish Folds or to learn more about them, try reading Scottish Fold Cats: Everything About Acquisition, Care, Nutrition, Behavior, Health Care, and Breeding by Phil Maggitti.  If you enjoyed reading about Dewey, you may try reading the first book in a trilogy about Norton, a Scottish Fold, in the book The Cat Who Went to Paris by Peter Gethers.  Hopefully, after reading the books mentioned above, you will know more about cats and realize that not all cats have to look scary in pictures.
