The Catcher In the Rye

September 13, 2010

 Did you know?

  • J.D. Salinger received five battle stars and became staff sergeant while serving in the U.S. Army.
  • The Catcher in the Rye was his first novel. He had only published a few short stories before it was released.
  • Salinger's last work to be published was in 1965.
  • The Catcher in the Rye is frequently on lists of banned and/or challenged books. From 1990-2005, it was always one of the top ten challenged books.
  • Although he received many requests to adapt The Catcher in the Rye into a play or movie, including some from Marlon Brando and Leonardo Dicaprio, Salinger refused.
