Catalog Dreamin'
March 18, 2011
It starts the day after Christmas. For the next two weeks, garden supply catalogs arrive daily. My common sense says, no, don't even look, but the garden gnome on my shoulder says, yes, it's okay, just take a peek!
Next thing, I've dreamt an edible paradise on my patio. A mini peach tree you can grow in a pot, an abundance of herbs ready for snipping, blueberry bushes in planters.... Maybe a fruit orchard.....Picking bushels of apples, pears, cherries, apricots...
Oh, yes, I need vines also. Wisteria covered pergolas, red honeysuckle, morning glory, kiwi.... My yard will be a showpiece, a slice of heaven on earth!
Okay, time to quit dreaming and step away from the catalogs. I look out the window at the snow covered ground. Spring can't come fast enough!
Everyone can dream when you check out gardening books from the library. Some good choices are The Complete Herb Garden by Miranda Smith, The Patio Garden by Michael Jefferson Brown, or Gardening with Heirloom Seeds by Lynn Coulter. Sweet dreams, everyone! It's been a long winter. Enjoy SPRING!
