The Card Catalog

I wish I had a nickel for every person that walked into the library and said, "Where's the old card catalog?" If they only realized how wonderful the online catalog is, they would be turning cartwheels!

I started thinking about the card catalog when I was painting my old, outdated, card catalog file cabinet. (I bought it from MCPL back in 1998). You have to admit, they do have a charming, vintage look about them. (Especially when painted ocean blue with little labels for each drawer!)

However, I digress. The online catalog will find anything for you in a matter of seconds. You don't even need to know the author! You can even find books in other languages. You can order a book and have it waiting on the shelf for you to pick up after work. Check it out with the self-check machine, and you are outa there in a few minutes.

Every person that I have turned on to the online catalog has been very impressed. When you give them "hands on" training, it's like teaching a man to fish. They are hooked!
