Car Maintenance at the Library Part 2
April 30, 2012
As I’ve said before, what I know about cars isn’t much, but I am becoming more familiar with MCPL’s Automotive and Small Engine Repair Databases.
Last time I turned to them, it was for a pesky Ford Ranger transmission (which is still "trucking" around town just fine). This time, it was the wiring diagram for a wonderful restoration project. This one did give me pause—how far back do our databases go? The project in question is a ’63. Hmmm…why yes! It does!
After you login to the Mitchell database (for in-library use only), you will find Vintage in the menu on the left. And there it is. For this problem, we looked up wiring diagrams and selected 1963, Chevrolet, and Chevy II. Beautiful.
Now, I can’t promise everything is in there for every car. Some things I haven’t been able to find, like the door lock mechanics for a 1965 American Motors--though I did locate the electric window control diagram for the same car. We are beginning to suspect it doesn’t have door locks...Oh the things you learn with project cars!
