Camden Point Book Club
July 31, 2010
Titles discussed in the monthly Book Club are chosen approximately a year to a year and one-half in advance, selected primarily from the BookTalk catalog supplied by the Adult Services Department with a few titles obtained in-system. Once a title has been determined, a list of discussion questions is compiled as well as any interesting relative information touched on in the book.
For example, on May 17th of this year, we discussed The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, which covered the era of the Dust Bowl during the 1930’s. To enhance the discussion, I ordered several books which had vivid pictures portraying the stark reality of the landscape affected, as well as books containing images of Route 66 both then and now which the characters traveled. I always try to make the Camden Point Book Discussion Group interesting by bringing any relevant materials pertaining to the subject, area, and/or era of the book being discussed.
And then, we wait for the Book Club night to arrive on the third Monday of each month. Tables and chairs are arranged, drinks and a treats are provided, and the discussion ensues at 7pm. Some are quite lively and I’m happy to say Camden Point has many faithful participants who contribute to this fun, monthly event.
Won’t you come join us?!
