Calling All Quilters!
October 31, 2011
Did you know that you can quilt at the Midwest Genealogy Center? MGC has a free quilt group, the Dear Jane Quilters (named after Brenda Papadakis’s best-selling book), that meets the 1st Saturday of each month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. And, it doesn’t matter if you have been quilting for decades or have never even threaded a needle before because everyone is welcome! While the DJs are primarily recreating Jane Stickle’s 1863 masterpiece quilt, we welcome all quilters (and want-to-be quilters) to join us for some quality stitching time. Instructor Sue Engelman has been quilting for many years, and has a marvelous teaching style which makes learning fun for newbies and experts alike.
Last month, the DJs were treated to a special viewing of several antique quilts from the 1859 Jail Museum here in Independence, thanks to the generosity of Steve Noll, executive director of the Jackson County Historical Society. It was a joy to see these special quilts up close. While the DJs stitch every month, we are planning to have a few of these special events along the way just to keep things a bit more interesting. If you are interested in learning more about the Dear Jane Quilters, please contact us at the Midwest Genealogy Center - 816.252.7228.
