Calling All New Readers!
June 14, 2012
Don't let your reading skills get rusty this summer. The Antioch Branch has a program just for you. Pagemasters will meet every Monday at 6:30 p.m. We take turns reading a book, then play a game or make a craft to go along with the story. You can sign up online or call the Library at 816.454.1306.
Here are some of the books we are reading this summer:
- Sam at the Seaside by Mary LaBatt
- Eloise and the Big Parade by Lisa McClatchy
- Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy by Jane O'Conner and
- Owls by Sarah Courtauld

Beginning Readers
Typical participants are second graders, but we have had a variety including adult ESL learners. The kids and their parents love this non-competitive, fun way to practice reading. Each beginning reader gets to read a portion of the book aloud. We try to get enough copies of the book so that everyone has one. Sometimes we have to share and sometimes we get to read the book more than once so that everyone gets a turn. Then the readers get to check a copy of the book out to take home and practice some more. Teachers also like the results of this program.
