Breaking Out the Trail Mix
July 19, 2011
Not being from around here, I learn fun new facts about Kansas City and the surrounding area just about every day from my co-workers and/or library customers here at the Blue Ridge Branch. For instance, I suspect many of you have heard of the Katy Trail. Me? Not so much. How have I been here three years now and not heard of this neat trip idea?
Now in all honesty, I'm not exactly a bike rider by nature, but it's something in which I have always wanted to become more involved. Luckily, between the Katy Trail website, a helpful Wikipedia article, and our numerous books and videos on the experience, I have the planning tools necessary to hop on the trail (and a little bit of background history lesson for supplemental reading).
Here are a few of our materials to check out if you'd like to learn more:
The Katy Trail Guidebook, Kerry Mulvania
Katy Trail Nature Guide, Brian Beatte
You can also take a look at this KC Star article from June 19, 2011 about the trail's progress in connecting to Kansas City, "Like" Katy-related pages on Facebook, or check out images or YouTube videos posted to the Web from tour guides or other cyclists on the trail.
