Bread Pudding is the Best!
June 25, 2013
I love bread pudding. Bread pudding is one of my favorite foods. I evaluate restaurants based on whether or not they have bread pudding. I have eaten bread pudding in many different kinds of restaurants and in many different places. I have eaten bread pudding in German restaurants, Italian restaurants, barbecue places, and even in a Chinese restaurant. I visited Thailand, and of course, ate bread pudding every morning at breakfast. When Barnes and Noble had their grand opening for their Plaza store, I walked into the store and they handed me a very large helping of bread pudding. How did they know that was my favorite thing? One of my friends at school made bread pudding out of biscuits. It had a completely different texture than the ones made with bread, but just as good. I think it comes from the South.
Bread pudding started out as a way of saving money and a way of using old bread. If you find places with lots of old bread, you will probably also find that they make bread pudding. At one time, throwing anything away was bad because people just didn’t have money. My mom made bread pudding out of day-old cake donuts. My dad was a baker and owned a donut shop, so making old donuts into bread pudding made perfect sense. So, maybe some of my fascination with bread pudding comes from the comfort it gives me.
I looked through the cookbook section, and found many that had comfort foods. In Fix-It and Enjoy It! Cookbook by Phyllis Pellman Good, there was a good recipe for bread pudding with a vanilla sauce. It even had a way of making a strawberry glaze to go on top. That’s my kind of food! Another book with a bread pudding recipe is Cookies, Cakes, Muffins, and More.
Well, I will keep searching for best bread pudding. If you find a place or a recipe, you might tell me so I can further enhance my taste buds!
