Booktalk Gets a New Look
March 29, 2012
If you run a book club and order your books through MCPL, you might have noticed that things have changed a little bit. MCPL has had a Booktalk collection for book clubs that meet at the library and for our community book club groups as well. This has always been a tremendous resource and will be even more utilized with the new program: Kit Keeper.
The biggest challenge of the Booktalk Collection was looking at the books in the collection and trying to fit it in to your book group schedule without being able to see when the title was being used. Community book groups vary in how they choose their books, and it could be a lot of back and forth to find when the titles were available. With Kit Keeper, books will be available in groups of ten. Some books will just have one kit, while others could have up to four kits available for checkout. There are three ways to look for books for your clubs: looking at the complete collection, looking for a certain book or kit, and seeing what’s available during a certain month. The public is now able to use this new resource. I have been working with this for a few months now and love the Kit Keeper system. Staff members at your branch will be able to assist you in reserving titles in the collection. This is going to be really great, and I know I’m looking forward to using it with the community book clubs we assist at North Oak Branch.
Anyone who would like more information should call North Oak Branch and ask for Linda at 816-436-4385 or email me at lobrien@mymcpl.org. MCPL is excited to provide better access to our book club titles.
