Books in the Kitchen

March 18, 2013

The kitchen is the hub of my home, just as it is for most people. And it also seems to be the place where every book, magazine, and random piece of paper finds a home, which a quick glance around my kitchen right now confirms!

Should I peruse the Short Hair Style Guide magazine or curl up with The Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson? Devour the free local newsprint mags I picked up today or read a bookazine on mastering the iPad? Just the anticipation of reading makes me happy. And to add to the joy, my 10-year-old son (a sometimes reluctant reader) just up and said, "Mom, today I got past the boring part in The Hobbit, and now Bilbo is starting on his journey." Yay! And now my boy is getting ready to embark on his own journey.

Are you ready to embark on a journey, be it literary, escapist, informational, or other? Then, stop by one of our branches or search the MCPL website. We’ll be more than happy to help you along the way.

I love it when kids discover a great book. He's in for some great journeys.

I think so, too. I'm just glad he persevered!
