Books That Bring You Back
July 30, 2012
One of the fun things about the Summer Reading Program for me is all the leisure reading that the kids get to do. We have checked out many books from our juvenile fiction section that they have been reading. Some of the series checked out by your school age children have been Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Babysitters Club, Chronicles of Narnia, Gary Paulsen, and many more.
The second benefit to having your children reading during the summer is that we adults get the opportunity to be reunited with nostalgic books that bring us back. So, I went ahead and checked some out just for myself. I had such a wonderful time curling up in my favorite armchair, reading Anne of Green Gables and The Babysitters Club, and remembering my slow days in the summer as a school age child myself.
Every so often, I have discovered that it is truly a treat to toss aside that endless To-Be-Read list and just enjoy a story that reminds of me of slower and simpler times. Next time you are helping your children pick a book of their own, pick some juvenile fiction books up for yourself. You may surprise yourself at how glad you are that you did.
