Books and Blogs?
December 22, 2010
Blogs and books? Obviously, the library thinks they're highly compatible. But, to most people, they are two different worlds. After all:
-Blogs usually update often, some several times per day.
-Books stay the same (at least until the next edition, which might be years from now).
-Blogs are written by all kinds of people, from kids to celebrities to your next-door neighbor.
-Books are usually written by a select group of well-informed adults.
But a growing number of blogs are blurring the line between the two by publishing their own books. The infamous icanhascheezburger.com, home of crazy cat pictures with strange captions in "Kitty Pidgin English", has two: I Can Has Cheezburger? and its sequel, How To Take Over Teh Wurld. Postsecret.com, a well-known and ever growing project of secrets sent in anonymously on postcards, has four books, the first of which is PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions From Ordinary Lives. And CakeWrecks.com, a light-hearted blog full of really awful professional cakes, has Cake Wrecks: When Professional Cakes Go Hilariously Wrong.
For those of the photographic persuasion, Photojojo.com has an excellent book of the same name: Photojojo! : Insanely Great Photo Projects and DIY Ideas. And photographer/blogger Kevin Meredith of lomokev.com has Hot Shots: Tips and Tricks for Taking Better Pictures.
Even baby blogs have books now. (Well, really funny ones do, anyway.) The Poo Bomb: True Tales of Parental Terror is the grand compilation of "the baby story" found at ironycentral.com.
Need something to do? You can always check out the book from your favorite blog - or the blog from your favorite book!
