Book Walk at Barnes and Noble
December 20, 2010
The Bookies from the Blue Springs North Branch felt like professional judges as they were fully entertained by the students from Sunny Vale Middle School. The Bookies judged the SVMS first annual "BookWalk" contest at Barnes and Noble.
Madyson Mcmillan was chosen as the Overall Winner, walking as Maryam, the fearless assassin, in Michael P. Spradlin’s The Youngest Templar: Keeper of the Grail. This bookwalk took us right back to the Medieval times, and features the legend of the Holy Grail. Siena Fleck dressed up as your typical Goth girl, befitting the part of Phoebe in Generation Dead by Daniel Walters, winning The Best Costume. Gordan Fang was awarded The Best Characterization with his sweater vest and glasses. His overall presence expressed the clueless main character, Greg, in The Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. Madelyn Cole received The Best Talk with her bookwalk as Princess Talia in Kiss In Time by Alex Flinn. Taylor Williams won for the Best Walk as she embodied Vivi, the best friend in the book entitled Fake Boyfriend by Kate Brian.
The bookwalk was a great way to get teens involved in the community and reading. These characters all discovered their favorite character. Prizes were awarded, and lots of fun was had by all!
