Book Club Crosses Africa!
October 22, 2012
Crossing the Heart of Africa by Julian Smith is a book filled with adventure, exotic settings, encounters with strange people, grand heroic gestures for love, and cannibals! Does this sound like the set-up for a great romance novel? Maybe, a Jurassic Park style adventure? Would you believe that every word of it is true?!
Next month’s Book Club selection tells the true tale—well two of them actually—of two men on quests to prove their worth to themselves and the women they love. One man set out in 1898 to be the first person to cross the entire length of Africa, from Cape Town to Cairo, and win the hand of his lady. A century later, Julian Smith, a young journalist, followed him, retracing the 4500-mile journey in his own quest for love and glory.
Crossing the Heart of Africa awaits you behind the front desk at the Kearney Branch. Check it out, read it, and then, join us for Book Club on Friday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
