Blue Springs South Inspirational Book Group
June 04, 2012
The Blue Springs South Inspirational Book Group met on Thursday, May 17th at 1:00 p.m. We discussed The Priest by Francine Rivers. This book is the first in the Sons of Encouragement series. Aaron, the brother of Moses and the first High Priest of Israel, is the main character. The author shows us how Aaron struggles with being satisfied in his role as a secondary leader even though he is the older of the two brothers.
Our group agreed that the author did an outstanding job of bringing the Biblical account alive through accurate details and realistic human emotions. Even though most of us were familiar with the plagues against Egypt and Israel wandering in the wilderness, it was exciting to read this account. The detailed descriptions of the temple and the sacrifices brought them to life. You could almost see and smell the blood and smoke!
All in all, our group agreed it was well written. We were not sure why it was called a "novella" though, as it is 228 pages long in regular print. The other titles in this series are The Warrior (Caleb #2), The Prince (Jonathan #3), The Prophet (Amos #4), and The Scribe (Silas #5).
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 21st at 12:00 p.m. – note the earlier meeting time. We will be discussing The Preacher’s Bride by Jody Hedlund. John and Elizabeth Bunyan inspired this 17th century English historical romance. John Bunyan wrote The Pilgrim’s Progress.
We invite you to visit our group whether or not you have time to complete the novel. Hope to see you there!
