Blue Springs North Branch Celebrates 20 Years
January 15, 2013
Can you believe people still come in and say, "I didn’t even know that this library was even here?" I can remember hurriedly moving furniture and labeling books for the anticipated opening of the Blue Springs North Branch. The staff worked on assembling tables, computer desks, and labeling lots and lots of books. We finally opened our doors in January 1993 to the public. I can even remember our first patron that came in to introduce himself and commented that his family would be one of our biggest supporters. Every once in a while I’m lucky enough to still see this patron.
I’ve seen many changes within the branch, such as implementing the computerized card catalog, public holds, self-checkout stations, and the remodeling of our library branch, just to name a few. Several staff members have moved on, but we are pleased that we have three original staff members still with us that started over 20 years ago. Anyone brave enough to guess who our three original staff members are?
Kids that came in when I first started working are now grown up and bringing their own children into the Library. One of my favorite things about working with the public library is getting to meet all the wonderful people. I have formed many friendships and consider it a pleasure and an honor to share in the lives of so many of our patrons. Please share with us your favorite library memory.
Windy I.
