Big Library Read
May 15, 2013
Mid-Continent Public Library is taking part in an exciting new reading program through OverDrive called "Big Library Read," and we hope you'll consider participating!
Big Library Read is like a global book club where libraries promote an eBook, and everyone with a library card has immediate access to the same title. The first book in this exciting new project is Michael Malone's The Four Corners of the Sky and was librarian-picked and donated by the author himself.
What I'm really excited about is the second part of the Big Library Read pilot. Over the years there's been a lot of conjecture about the ways that library lending impacts book sales and the fear that eLending is harming authors and publishers. For Big Library Read, OverDrive is partnering with independent publisher, Sourcebooks, Inc. and Library Journal, to examine print and digital sales data as it relates to the current book club title. They are also interested to see if promoting a title sparks discussion and interest in an author's other books. Ultimately, this data will be made public to spark open dialogue on the subject.
The Four Corners of the Sky will be available May 15th through June 1st, so head over to our OverDrive page and join 25 other countries in a brand new experiment in reading!
