The Benefits of Volunteering to Help Others
September 26, 2013
Bored? Need something new to do? Or, would you like to do something to help others in the coming holiday season? Try volunteering. Volunteering is an excellent way to help people in need or support a good cause. It’s also a good way to make new friends and gain some new experiences.
There are several ways you can volunteer your time to support a good cause or help other people. You can offer to assist other students with subjects that you excel. There are also several places within communities such as hospitals, community centers, and museums that may need a hand.
If you are looking for other ways to serve, you can check with your school guidance counselor’s office. You can also drop by the library and look for listings on the community bulletin board. The local newspaper is another good place to find a way to volunteer.
By volunteering, you gain experience that is not gained through traditional means, such as an after-school job. Many volunteer organizations have also been known to write recommendation letters that are useful for college or job applications. There is also the satisfaction of knowing that you used your time to benefit others.
