The Beatles or The Stones?

January 10, 2011

Believe it or not, people have been pondering this question for almost 50 years now. And what's amazing, the debate still rages on.

On a day in December 2010, at our quiet little Claycomo Branch, I had on the desk a copy of the newly published The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones: Sound Opinions on the Great Rock 'N' Roll Rivalry by Jim DeRogatis. I was planning to check the book out at the end of my shift, but what happened during the course of the day surprised me. During the course of the day, both young and old had to let me know which band they preferred (The Beatles or The Rolling Stones) and why. It was very enlightening.

So, I began to keep a tally in my mind of who got the most "votes", and in the end, the winner was…neither. They actually tied. And I can understand that, in an odd sort of way, because I love them both!

For more books on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones (and other Rock-N-Roll musicians), please visit section 782 of your nearest MCPL branch.

Of course I love the Beatles. Who doesn't? But the Stones are more "rock & roll".
