Beat the Heat!
July 02, 2012
The weatherman just confirmed it; June 2012 was the sixth hottest June in 130 years for the Kansas City area. No wonder we are all getting higher utility bills!
If the kids in your life are complaining about how hot it is, how about helping them understand what is happening and why. A good place to start is your local Library. MCPL has many good books to help you explain what is happening. Here are a few you and your child might like:
Sizzle: a Book About Heat Waves by Rick Thomas
Drought and Heat Wave Alert! by Paul Challen
Really Hot Science Projects with Temperature by Robert Gardner
Some cute picture books you can enjoy together are:
I Am Extremely Absolutely Boiling by Lauren Child
Amanda Pig and the Really Hot Day by Jean VanLeeuwen
Think Cool Thoughts by Elizabeth Perry
One of the coolest places in town is the Library. Visit the Camden Point Branch to experience both kinds of "cool" with Mad Science Demonstrates Fire and Ice on Thursday, July 12 at 10:00 am. You will see foggy dry ice storms, giant beach balls floating in mid-air, and flashy reactions that go poof!
If there are teens in your life, they will love our special program for them on Monday, July 9 at 3:00 pm. Brain Freeze for Teens is going to be a great time to get together, eat ice cream and treats, and play trivia and games.
Let us help you keep your "cool" this summer. Visit MCPL!
