Badlands of Northern Ontario
November 26, 2010
On November 15, the Camden Point Book Talk members met to discuss book Crow Lake by Mary Lawson, which was set in the rural “badlands” of northern Ontario. This is a story told by Kate Morrison of her life experiences, who with her three siblings was orphaned young. It details how the sacrifices of her two older brothers kept the family together. She shared a fascination for their farm’s pond life with an older brother who had a passionate interest in the natural world. She became a zoologist and could identify organisms under a microscope, but seemed blind to the state of her own emotional life.
When the Book Talk members voiced their opinions of this selection, as usual, some were favorable while others did not care for the book. Another drawing was held for a bookmark with winner being faithful member, Doris Taylor, pictured above.
