Back to School Resources

August 13, 2014

It’s hard to believe that another summer is drawing to a close. I hope all the parents out there are thinking of ways that the Library can help you as the start of a new school year is just around the corner. I’m sure you are looking forward to packing lunches and signing permission slips, and that is a pretty big gig of its own. It is always nice to be reminded that the Library can be there to help kids all year long with what they need to be successful in the classroom.

There are hundreds of kids that will start the school year off strong because they participated in MCPL’s Summer Reading Program. The Library has many resources to help keep their momentum going. The best part is that we have so much more than books, and most of our Online Resources can be accessed from home.

A valid library card is all they need to access Online Resources, including Live Homework Help from Tutor.com. Live Homework Help is one of the best resources for students, from kindergarten all the way through college. It even works great for students that had cheerleader practice right after school, came home and ate dinner, and then spent two hours on the phone with friends, because tutors are available for live chat sessions from noon until midnight. Also, with the mobile app, they can login to Live Homework Help from a device as needed.

Students will also be grateful to have access to the Writer’s Reference Center when it is time to write those pesky research papers. It is a great place to check on hard-to-remember grammar rules and tips for doing research. Once their paper is written, they can get back to the fun parts of life that writing research papers gets in the way of, and you know they have put their best work into it.

Keeping in touch with the latest tools is a great way to make going back to school easier for a lot of parents and students. Tools like the Evernote app are great for organizing different class notes all in one place, and students can keep all their notes right at their fingertips. They can even set reminders to help them prepare for major exams or to get projects turned in on time.

The school year can be busy and crazy, and from August to May, everyone seems to be on the run just trying to keep up. Anything that can help make the school year run more smoothly for parents and students is great to have. The Library is here to make it a little easier with great Online Resources, just a keystroke away.

So have a great new school year, and good luck!
