AWE Early Literacy Computers

August 07, 2012

AWE Early Literacy Stations are a developmentally appropriate, computer-based learning experience with a focus on emerging literacy skills, early mathematics, and problem solving.

MCPL has received technology grants for an AWE Early Literacy Station at each of our locations from Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan. These Technology Mini Grants are funded by the Library Services & Technology Act through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The institute’s mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

AWE Early Literacy Stations

Submitted by Anonymous on August 7, 2012 - 9:16pm.

Wonderful concept but has anyone figured out how to mind these stations since the parents usually just turn their kids loose to run amuck in the librarys? I've already seen kjds fighting over these computers and getting rowdy and louder than normal. Why can't your people help control these loud kids?

We hold all of our patrons to

Submitted by Anonymous on August 8, 2012 - 2:20pm.

We hold all of our patrons to the same standard of conduct in our libraries. If someone is being disruptive, staff address the situation as quickly as possible. Kids are still learning how to behave in appropriate manners so you can expect to see them misbehaving more frequently regardless of their surroundings. I urge you to talk with the staff at your branch if you feel your experience there is being negatively affected by a loud disruption. I know they will do whatever they can to make the library a pleasant place for everyone.
