During the month of August, I always wish I could go somewhere cooler. The temperature starts heating up in July, and by August, I find it quite unbearable! So, I decided I would just check with a couple of websites to see what Alaska is like in August. I checked MCPL's Web Resources page and clicked on the Recreation and Sports link. I also checked www.Frommers.com and www.Alaska.com and found some interesting information. The average temperature in Anchorage, Alaska in August is 64 degrees! When I compare that to Missouri's temperature averages in August of 70 to 89 and higher, it sounds like Alaska is more to my liking for August!
Also, according to this website www.Alaska.com, the best times to go to Alaska are between May 10 and Sept. 15. August fits right in there. Alaska is looking better all the time!
A fun fact about Alaska is that on June 21, the longest day of the year, there are 19 hours of daylight in Anchorage, 22 hours in Fairbanks, and 18 hours in Southeast. So, if your birthday is June 21, "lucky you,” you should plan to spend it in Fairbanks and celebrate for 22 hours!
Along with the above websites, MCPL also has books and DVDs about Alaska for you to check out. To mention a few:
