Audiobooks & TV Shows While You Work
July 11, 2012
Many days my husband works 8 hours at his office, comes home, eats dinner, and then works some more in our home office. Sometimes, I’ll sit at my desk and make cards while he works. When we are both at our desks, we’ll listen to audiobooks. We’ve listened to C. J. Box’s Joe Pickett series and are anxiously awaiting the audiobook edition of his most recent book, Force of Nature.
Recently, we have also listened to Saga of the Seven Suns series by Kevin J. Anderson and enjoyed it a great deal. Other recent listens include The Summer Guest by Justin Cronin; and since we really liked his descriptive powers, we gave his book, The Passage, a try. It is the beginning of a post-apocalyptic vampire series, and even though we typically don’t read vampire books, this was a really good one.
When I’m not working at my desk, I sit in a recliner we have in the office, and we put in DVDs and watch television series. Lately, we just finished watching all of the Dick Van Dyke Show. To change things up a bit, we went Sci-Fi. We’re working on Stargate SG1. My husband likes both series, since they often make him laugh, which relieves some of the stress of a long day at work.
What do you like to listen to or watch while you work?

Audiobooks to Enjoy
I recently became hooked on the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. After I shared a few of Amelia's adventures with my husband, he announced that he might like to read some of the books in audio format. Since I'd already consumed several of her books already, "I ordered The Last Camel Died at Noon," and we shared Amelia & Emerson's adventures in the deserts of West Egypt. Though my husband prefers reading "guy" books that have lots of things blowing up, etc., he admits to enjoying Peters' characters, her educated vocabulary, and the facts about Egyptology that she incorporates into the stories. (He's been giving his dictionary a steady workout of late!) However, the icing on this lovely cake is Barbara Rosenblat, the narrator of Peters' books. She creates distinctive voices for each character, regardless of their nationality or age, and brings them all to life as you listen. -- You can almost smell the pungent aromas of Cairo!

Audiobooks to enjoy
I may have to try the audiobooks. I've read the majority of the Amelia Peabody series and enjoyed it greatly. A good reader can sure make or break an audio book. Thanks for the recommendation.
