Anime Conventions Near MCPL
February 04, 2013
When my interest in anime really started budding about nine years ago, I was under the impression that the extent of my fandom (fan domain) would be the Internet. I watched the shows and was able to talk about them with people on sites my mom had deemed safe for me, but I wanted to be able to experience more.
All types of fan conventions generally are branches of science fiction conventions, which began in the late 1930s. Anime conventions center on Japanese animation, and there are hundreds of cons held every year in America.
At anime conventions, fans can get together to experience and delve into the anime world together. Vendors attend to sell anime merchandise; voice actors are invited to talk to fans and give out autographs; and there’s always a panel to peak your interest!
I’ve been attending Naka-Kon since 2007. I’ve dressed up as characters, met some of my favorite voice actors, and gained many, many friends. Anime conventions are a way to get out there and find others who enjoy the same things as you for bonding and an all-around good time.
Some anime conventions near here are:
Anime Festival Wichita in Wichita, KS
Naka-Kon in Overland Park, KS
Motaku in Kansas City, MO
Cosplacon in Jefferson City, MO
Encounters in Wichita, KS

The Library is a great place to expand your knowledge and fan base of anime. Here at MCPL, we have anime for all ages that you can check out!
