Anime
February 23, 2012
Recently, I have encountered a lot of questions about what makes a movie an "anime" movie. What exactly is anime, and how does it differ from just animated films?
There are countless animated films. They includes everything from classics like Cinderella to modern movies like The Lorax. Anime is a specific category of animated films. This refers to a style of art and animation particular to Japan. As a general rule, pictures appear very 2-dimensional, and people are very stylized. If you want a specific litmus test for identifying an anime work, look at the eyes. Anime uses a specific formula for forming eyes. They tend to take up the most space on the face, are trapezoidal in shape, and have a series of shine spots.
If you need further demonstration, you can always attend one of the library’s Anime Movie Nights.
